Logs
Our desire for this log home was the best quality in construction, energy efficiency, and a floor plan that was just plain fun and cozy. While log homes are naturally warm in both feel and look, they can also be difficult to maintain if the logs are not properly cured and set. Aesthetics are as important as quality. So after a diligent search we selected Old Virginia Log Homes as our log and design source.

After careful select timber cutting, all Old Virginia logs are air cured, not kiln dried. When dry each log is given a through quality inspection before shaping begins. Hand-hewn by the master craftsmen at Old Virginia every log has unique artistic markings. The 16 foot long by 8 inch thick white cedar logs have inside interlocking V-grooves, and exterior chinking grooves. Insulation and caulking forms a tight but flexible seal between each log set. Old Virginia delivered and set all logs in place. Logs were moved from the truck straight onto the house foundation. 4. Great room, kitchen to left

The log wall is the darker wood. Above the logs and on the ceiling are tongue and groove softwood paneling. All the wood you see, from floor to ceiling, and all beams, have been well sanded and sealed.

Fireplace
Local masons built the fireplace and chimney with area native rock. To maintain our desire for quality, the masons took care in ensuring the use of straight lines, solid stable construction, and appealing design. The elevated firebox makes watching the fire from across the room or up close more pleasing. A fan driven heat transfer system built around the metal firebox helps warm the entire house. The hand hewn mantel is solid white cedar supported by custom made white cedar "baby" logs.
